Albums You Should Listen To: Dubee's Thizzmatic

I've been hearing Dubee's music for years now, mostly from compilations and features, but it wasn't until 2008's Thizzmatic that I finally decided to check out a solo album by him. What really makes this album stand out in my mind is Dubee's grimy and vicious flow and a set of truly unique beats. I also appreciate that this album doesn't wear out it's welcome, clocking in at under 50 minutes, with no bad songs on it. That's not to say there aren't some mediocre ones on here, but it's pretty rare that I'm not reaching for the skip button when playing albums, so...thumbs up. Albums like these give me hope that Thizz Ent. isn't done for and are actually capable of making albums without referencing Mac Dre every third line. Since this album Dubee has only had mixtapes where he is "presenting." I think dude got locked up for a little while, but I'm pretty sure he's free now so hopefully we will be hearing some new music from him in the near future.

Dubee "I Am Da N****"

The opening track to the album. Dubee spits real hard over some laid black slaps. It sounds like he gets too close to the mic during the chorus or something, it makes you wonder about the budget of the album, you know? Despite the budget most of these songs came out sounding high quality.

Dubee "Dolla On"

Dubee rapping about getting women to pay him, which is a pretty common theme throughout the album. Listen to the way he spits his raps on the first verse, no one is really doing it like Sugawolf the Pimp. His ad libs at the end of the song are particularly entertaining, "the planet is flat for motherfuckers like you, bitch walk off the end (off the earth Bitch)"

"off the earth bitch" via a long boat
Dubee "Pay Me"

Dubee does almost every chorus on this album by himself and he really shows a knack for making simple and catchy choruses. I really like this one in particular because of the keyboards that come in during the chorus. I'll give you one guess as to what this song is about.

Dubee ft. I-Rocc "Wakin' Up Da Kids"

Another thing that I appreciate about this album is the relative lack of features, which is something you don't see that much these days from albums out of the Bay, but it really works in Thizzmatic's favor. With that being said the features that are on this release are pretty sav, with the two songs with I-Rocc being my favorites of the album.

Dubee ft. I-Rocc "Round Here"

I'm pretty sure this song was made for me. Before I moved my iTunes over to a new computer it was the 10th most played song. This song is so hard that it makes me want to actively shoot people and I mean that in the best way possible.
