My computer was broken for the past week and I just got that shit back, going a week without my iTunes was like breaking up with the girl of my dreams and tears soaking my pillow every night (jk). Anywho, let's get back into this with some new slaps, there's been a lot so prepare yourself:Lil B "BasedGod Velli"
Based God has a new mixtape out again and this one is titled BasedGod Velli, which is a super unclever play on words. Not really into all these songs Lil B has been making where he tries to come with that conscious flow, tackling serious subject matter over some boring New York City circa 1993 beats. I mean they display maturity for him as an artist, but they just aren't as entertaining as his earlier works and I think Im Gay proved that he doesn't always have to come with some ignorant shit to make an enjoyable rap song.
Joe Blow kind of looks like a wax figure or mannequin to me on this cover for some reason
Joe Blow ft. Young Bossi "Caught Up In This Life"
The Jacka's protege has a new mixtape out and it's nice to see how much attention it's been receiving on the internet. The actual tape is pretty uneven and the album's sound quality is pretty terrible in places, but it's still worth checking out. You Should Be Payin' Me is the best debut album out of the Bay this year and still gets spins at the 100 Grand on My Wrist headquarters regularly. "The Dopest" may be one of the best songs of 2011.
Dubee "Track 01"
Dubee's back! He just came out with a new free mixtape called Crest Side Radio. Dubee's raps are crazy; he has such a vicious flow and unique delivery, any new music from him is always welcome here, even if he's rapping over radio hits here. His last full-length from '08, Thizzmatic, was great, but I think it sold like 300 copies or something sad like that. No idea why Dubee isn't a bigger deal than he is.

Young L ft. Deezy Dolla "Rock Up"
Young L has a new mixtape out and he's back to making super-futuristic-video-game-slaps after dropping the new agey/experimental mixtape, As I Float: The Great John Nash a few months back. Young L is one of the best producers in the Bay and has really created a style that is all his own. These tracks go super hard and if you like a thumping bass backed up by the sound of electronics glitching the fuck out then you should check this mixtape out. It's available for free download.
Keak Da Sneak "They Call Me"
Mr. Super Duper Hyphy is about to come out with a new album (bringing that nickname back right now) and here is a song from that. Apart from the awkward album cover and a handful of cuts with no-name R&B singers doing the hook, Keak Hendrix is pretty tight. Not sure about the production credits on this release, but the beats pick up right where Deified left off, i.e. updated Hyphy jams. It seemed like Keak didn't really have a clear musical direction for his music after the hyphy movement died off, but his Tonite Show album with DJ Fresh earlier this year hinted at his ability to transition to retro-sampled beats, but he's back to these dense, electronic beats of his commercial peak now, which is alright with me.

San Quinn ft. Lil Quinn "Flood The Streets"
Guns, Oil and Drugs-Recession Proof is actually going to come out now next month after previously being shelved about a year ago. The album drops next month, but it already leaked onto the internet. Another weird and extremely uneven release from San Quinn, not sure what's up with that guy, but here is a smooth song off it that featuring his son.
Alright bros that's all the new raps, but many posts coming up this week so check back in later.
What do you think of these songs?
What are your favorite new rap songs out right now?
Do you think the repercussions of the European Debt Crisis will substantially affect the United States economy?
Going to just wait here for some replies in the comment section.

There is some really good shit on that Joe Blow tape. "Caught up in this Lifestyle" is my favorite track as well. When I listen to it, I like to imagine myself bending a corner in a nice European car with beige leather seats and the heat on when it's freezing cold outside. All while doing some serious thinking about life of course!
ReplyDeleteI actually thought "Never Came Out" was the gem on Lil B's new tape.
ReplyDeleteI'm feelin' that bear. All at the table like"...you will bring me at least 5 picnic baskets. If not we will find your family."
ReplyDelete@Billy Dee
ReplyDeleteThe Jacka and Joe Blow have definitely got the introspective gangster rap game on lock right now.
@Latissaw
Yeah his rapping is good on that song and the rest of the tape, but these East Coast beats put me to sleep.
@Anon
I love Picnic Table Bear more than words can describe.
international blow is really really good. i think i like it more than his album. theres relatively few features, which means more joe blows raps, and he has steadily been improving. "walking lick" slaps so hard in my car. tremendo!!!
ReplyDeleteeurope is seriously fucked, but america will be fine for a while after europe crashes. but when world war 3 starts, im planning on standing next to the jacka.
The problem with Lil B's more traditional NY sounding stuff this year is that none of his new experiments with that style are touching his 2009 songs in the same vein like I Am The Hood, Good Morning, Myspace, Aug 17th and Age Of Information.
ReplyDeleteThose are all Brandon classics, IMO. Besides that, I just think he fell off all around this year because all of his plethora of mixtapes have been uninspired.
