Cellski has a new album out and just about every quality rapper from the Bay makes an appearance on it. Cellski's musical output has really slowed down these past few years, with Big Mafi The Don being his first new material in two years, but it was worth the wait. On the album cover the newspaper headline reads "S.F. Judge Presumed Dead" and Cellski is giving us a look like "yeah that's right motherfucker, DEAD."
Here's some songs off it:
Cellski ft. Husalah "Cake Boss"
Oh hey look who it is, Husalah of the Mob Figaz, maybe you've heard of him before. Apart from "Da Mob" and a handful of features, Hus has not really released much this year. Hopefully that will change in 2012.
Cellski's production skills remains on point, with that signature bass-heavy, sinister mob sound that can be heard on this track. The beat matches Cellski's mean, deliberate flow perfectly. He probably has the rapping-about-food-and-cooking-as-an-analogy-for-gangster-shit game on lock (via Chef Boy Cellski, Canadian Bacon & Hash Browns, etc.). Great song!

Cellski ft. Rich The Factor "Project Roof"
Rich The Factor collaborating with the Bay again! The last Rich feature I heard on a Bay release was from 2010's Devilz Rejectz 2 and that song was dope as hell. The beat here isn't really my style with those organ keyboards, but Cellski and Rich The Factor's raps about shooting people more than make up for it. Love the imagery that the chorus conjures up of Cellski posted up on the roof of some dilapidated housing complex with a gun and bullet proof vest, looking for his victim. Apart from his third verse on "Black Backpack", I've never heard Rich the Factor yell his verses like this, it sounds tight, though.

Cellski ft. Joe Blow "The Life I Live (Cougar)"
Epic orchestral chorus sample over a fat bass line = never not awesome. Joe Blow raps about getting a woman addicted to cocaine so that she becomes a stripper and prostitute and pays him money (!!!!), sounds like the essence of chivalry lives on in the heart of Mr. Blow. I bet he would throw his jacket over a puddle of water for a woman on a date.
Cellski ft. AP.9, Lee Majors, Fed-X, Dru Down, Ampichino, Yukmouth & Rydah J. Klyde "It's The Mob"
Look at this feature list! Three out of the five Mob Figaz, the best non-Bay Area rapper out (Ampichino), Lee Majors and two Bay legends (Dru Down and Yukmouth). The way Lee Majors' verse flows with the beat here is dope, but honestly every rapper kills it here. Posse cut of the year?!
The whole album is pretty damn good, always nice to hear some new Cellski, 100GoMW,YLS recommended.
What do you think of the new album?
I love Husalah's verse. Can't say the same for Cellski.
ReplyDeleteCellski is pretty tight, I like the Cake Boss and "it's the mob" song a whole bunch. When I was a young buck, I used to watch this classic Chocolate Skateboards commercial with Stevie Williams skating to Cellski's "Mr. Predicter" over and over and over. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kD-onmHUNlo ...notice how he grabs his nuts at the end, that really just seals the deal, Stevie is (or was) gangster as fuck.
ReplyDeleteI just realized that "100 grand on my wrist, yeah life sucks" is a Young Jeezy quote the other day, which is tight. Found one of those Jeezy cocaine snowman "I got the snow, man!" shirts at a thrift store the other day, so go me! That'd be a good one to wear to work.
Also, glad you like that mix I made, it's a bit long so I didn't think anybody was gonna get through the whole thing
Oh yeah I saw that video on Nation of Thizzlam way back when, good shit.
ReplyDeleteThat shirt sounds like the equivalent of walking around with a Rolex watch: everyone around you knows you are a successful person and not afraid to flaunt it.
Cellski is a legend. I'm loving this new album, it's really solid all the way through with a lot of dope beats and features.
ReplyDeleteIt's great to see a veteran still putting out music with substance and consistency. The same can't be said for others (Hi Mess, Quinn, Yuk).
