I think HD really stole the show this year, more so than Main Attrakionz imo, although they&#39;re getting way more publicity. HD &amp; bearfaced actually set out what he set out to accomplish, basically taking the top spot thru good, consistent music and amazing adlibs. He did this all with subpar mixing, mastering and beats. This may be because important rappers from the Bay either under-performed (Jacka, Ap9, Yuk) or didn&#39;t release any music (Husalah). Meanwhile Ampichino and the FF and F1 camps released consistent quality without too much commercial compromise:<br />My personal album of the year was the Cop Heavy Gang album which I believe was impeccably produced throughout, maintaining an atmosphere of grim realism whilst still managing to slip in some amusing 80s samples (Pat Benatar, Europe) accompanied by relentlessly bleak verses from drug-pushing, ugly Akronites.<br />Young Bossi&#39;s album was also solid although possibly not as dope as Fishscale and Ren Fetti&#39;s album (did that come out this year?) after a long incarceration was both unique and fucking hard.<br /> &#39;I Aint On It&#39; was also my song and beat of the year in one. INCREDIBLE atmosphere for a posse cut without any of the features, despite being largely no-names, detracting from the impact of the song.<br />I better stop writing about Akron rap before I start referencing French poets (Thomas knows).<br /><br />Lastly, it came out at the absolute end of last year but Dru Down&#39;s Chronicles of a Pimp gave me great enjoyment this year and must be mentioned.
